She majored in Intercultural Communication while earning her Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Interpersonal Communication and Nonviolent Communication with Honors in 2005 and a Master's degree in Communication and Conflict Resolution in 2007. She created a course on peaceful communication as part of her master's thesis, and PSU is still teaching it.
